Tenement museum… Then a visit to Jason and Eileen’s house in Red Hook… They live in an old tenement house they’ve fixed up. Favorite quote of the week… Little brother councils big sister about to retire and is pondering a move from California to NYC: Moving to New York is like a Burgundy (drinking) habit, you’re better off to just not get started. Dearest Julia–much love from us flatlanders xoxo
While in Carroll Gardens (I used to live up the street in Cobble Hill, technically speaking) please go to Frankie’s or even better Prime Meats (also Frankies’ place two doors down). Order the Egley-Ouliet bubbly by the bottle, fresh pretzels, cheeses, pork chop, watercress salad, and anything else you can fit in your belly. Was just there two weeks ago and it was fab. They also have a great, cheap, cab franc (French) on the list that rocked with the chop. Hope you are well, sounds like u r having a fantastic time!
Thanks Jennie, I will keep that on the list for the next visit! It’s like a running tally with that town…
Sounds like a wonderful trip, Julia. Nourished by good food, and embraced by people who love you…and no wonder they do! Thank you for your authenticity & for engaging me in play & skill sharing. You’re a great teacher.
SF: If you’re playing well in this new phase of life (empty nest!?), then you’re off to a GREAT start.
We miss you already! As always we enjoyed your visit, and the time went by in a flash. You have such kind things to say about us, and our home, but, truly, dear Julia, we can hardly wait until the next time. We love sharing our home with you and your loving friends, and sharing meal after meal after meal!! There are so many places yet to sample! I discovered a menu for that Thai place on 2nd Ave. today. You would love it. Oh well, next time!
Ms. D: I’m IN.
That sounds so fun and delicious. Can’t wait to hear more details. Xoxox
tea after my whirlwind portland college trip is done with G. next week! if you’re in town, with you one never knows…..
Where were you staying? My friend Peter Hoffman lives on Great Jones right across the street from the firehouse! You may have met when he came out here for a visit; he and his wife owned the late great Savoy restaurant and now have Back Forty West in the same location and Back Forty in the East Village.
Hello CP! I know, my friends live just 2-3 doors down from Peter. They know each other through their neighborhood association. Drama with new opening businesses and such.
We even had lunch at the back forty! yum… pulled pork, what’s not to like? I didn’t post all my eating adventures, I really did walk, shop, and go to at least 3 museums as well, really!
xxoo
Funny, New York city can be just like a small town–sounds like you hit all the hot spots! Love the wig–you look like you. I made the mistake of getting a wig that didn’t look like my real hair at all and every time I looked in the mirror there was this alien . . .
Love the Firehouse and those great windows and the noodles, of course….
